Laser Cut Wooden Business Card
Business card prototype cut from 1/64″ (0.4mm) Birch Plywood with a 1lb wash coat of shellac.
The plywood is impressive in that it’s super thin and yet constructed from 3 layers of wood! The grain of the each layer is glued perpendicular to the next making for a stable, flexible material that is resistant to splitting, unlike traditional veneer.
The shellac allows the smoke to wipe off easily and promotes even staining should you choose to do so.
The downside is the material is designed for model aircraft use and is therefore rather pricey. But for the right application, it’s certainly a worthwhile material.
Although it didn’t hold the level of detail we achieve with paper, it might be possible to achieve better results than what are seen here with additional development time.
